Getting Around Cebu

There are a lot of options on how to get around, from motorbikes to ferries. It would all depend on how much time you have and how adventurous you can be.

Jeepneys/Multicabs

You will find them everywhere and you will be riding shoulder to shoulder with the locals. Its cheap, Php 7.00 – 11.00 per person depending on how far your destination is. They also follow a route so you will have plan before getting on one. Jeepney or Multicab routes can be just within a city or to another city.

Tricycles

Tricycles are motorbikes with sidecars. They travel along smaller roads within towns and cities. Fare is also cheap, Php 7.00 – 11.00 per person depending on their route and how far your destination is. You can also pay for the whole trip instead of sharing it with other people.

Taxi

You can find a taxi almost anywhere in the city area. In smaller towns and residential areas, sighting a taxi will be a bit far in between. If you are lucky, you might spot a vacant taxi after they just dropped off a passenger nearby. On a running meter, a taxi ride shouldn’t cost you more than Php 250.00 from our location going to Cebu City (depending on how bad traffic is).

Car rental

There are car rentals available that will already include a driver for your convenience. If you plan to go sightseeing or go out of the city for the day, it is best to rent a car for a day trip. You will save time looking for a ride and you will have plenty of space to relax while on the road for a couple of hours.

Bus

Another cheap option to travel between cities are buses. So far, there are two (2) bus companies operating between Lapu-Lapu City (where we are located) and Cebu City.

Just a short walk (or a short tricycle ride) from our location is a bus stop for MyBus (one of the bus companies) that will take you directly to SM City Cebu. According to their schedule, there should be a bus arriving every 20 minutes from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM. If you have a MyBus card, you will just have to tap when you board their air conditioned bus. Otherwise, you will have to pay the exact amount because the bus driver will not have any change.

Bus fare is Php 40.00 going to SM City Cebu.

Vhire

Vhires are tourist vans used for public transportation. These air conditioned vans can fit up to 18 passengers. Seating will be a little cramped for taller people and air conditioning can be a little weak especially on hot days. Vhires don’t follow a schedule and will only leave the terminal when all 18 seats are occupied.

There are several Vhire terminals in Lapu-Lapu City, the nearest one to our location is in Gaisano Mactan Island Mall.

Vhire fare:

Gaisano Mactan Island Mall to SM City Cebu – Php 25.00

Gaisano Mactan Island Mall to Ayala Center Cebu – Php 35.00

Ferry

This form of transportation is popular among the locals especially students and is a good way to beat the crazy traffic going to Cebu City. The ferry terminal is 15 minutes away by tricycle from our location or 15 minutes by multicab from the Mactan Marina Mall. There is a ferry arriving every 30 minutes from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM that travels to Pier 3 which is near the Sto. Niño Church and Fort San Pedro.

Regular fare is Php 14.00 plus a terminal fee of Php 1.00

Habal-Habal

Habal-habal is a motorbike for hire where you are driven to your destination for a fee. For nearby places, normal rate is Php 20.00. For destinations that are a little bit far, it will depend on the driver and how much you can haggle.

Grab (Car/Taxi)

This is a car or taxi hailing platform that requires an application to be installed on your phone, similar to Uber.

Grab Cars will already show you how much you will pay for the trip even before you book a ride.

Grab Taxi will hail member taxi drivers and will only show you an estimate of how much you should expect to pay when your trip is completed plus a booking fee.

Be aware that Grab rates for both cars and taxis will change at certain times like rush hour or if there is high demand for rides.

Angkas

Angkas is another ride hailing app similar to Grab, the difference is you will be hailing a motorbike instead of a car/taxi. Good thing about this is, like hailing a Grab Car, you will be shown how much the fare is even before you book a ride.
